I’m heading out to Denver this Wednesday afternoon. I’ll be staying in the Hyatt Regency for the first couple of nights, which I’m excited about. I love having a nice hotel room to myself. I fully plan on just heading to dinner & then bed when I arrive. (Maybe a glass of wine & some Internet first, but no promises.)
Denver had it’s first snow last Friday, a friend of mine reported. Nothing big & from the photo she posted, it was absolutely stunning, so that’s good. I love the combination of red & orange Fall leaves with a light dusting of really white snow… & even that light dusting had melted by the end of the day. On the other hand, I am a CALIFORNIA girl through & through, as much as I like adventuring, & I can’t even remember the last time I saw snow. It’s going to be cold & I’m not totally sure I’m prepared.
I’m really looking forward to exploring the snow & the mountains & the rocks. Denver is famous for the Red Rock amphitheater (concerts) & their mountains in general & I’m hoping to get a good, if cold, hike in over the weekend while I’m there.
I don’t ski, but there’s plenty to do in Denver even if you don’t. I’ll be staying with a friend for part of my trip, so I’m sure she knows some good spots, but I’ve also solicited recs on the Internet & people say: Root Down, Humble Pie, Sushi Den, Snooze, Cream Coffeehouse, The Populist, the Clyfford Still Museum, Potager, & MCA.
Less hipster spots & more “normal” toursity places include the Denver Art Museum (pictured below) & the botanical garden, although I’m not sure how much will be growing there now that it’s officially winter…
I’m sure we’ll spend plenty of time just wandering around, tasting the craft beers in the area, & catching up. You know how it is when you go visit a friend! 🙂
See you soon, Denver!
p.s. Let me know if you have any suggestions of your own for this city & stay tuned on what I do while I’m there on Instagram!
p.p.s. Check out this story about the first woman to ski down Everest & the first Americans to make it from the top to the bottom on skis, from Outside Magazine. It’s an interesting read!
