I just wanted to pop in & share some more images from my trip to Hawaii last April/May. It’s been a while since I was there, but as I’ve mentioned before, I pretty much want to move there, at least for a short-ish while. There are SO many pretty spots on the island & all of them seem to me to be quite worth spending an entire day, if not days, enjoying.
Hawaii is one of those places that a lot of people in the USA like to visit. It’s a gorgeous, tropical island, but it’s not as expensive for as as it would be to visit the Bahamas or St. Vincent or something. Plus, you can take normal sized airplanes to get here, ya know? 😉
I thought that given all the hype surrounding Hawaii, it would turn out to be one of those places that sounds more amazing that it really is. Maybe I’d arrive & find out that it’s an okay place & certainly nice, but not really worth your time & money. I couldn’t not have been more wrong. Hawaii is STUNNING. The landscapes are beautiful, the beaches are amazing, & the atmosphere is just so relaxing & beach-focused.
Nothing made me feel more strongly about this than the day we spent lounging on the North Shore. The water & sand & clouds & everything were just so breathtaking. I loved swimming & then lounging & then swimming again.
A definite highlight for me was the number of HUGE sea turtles we saw swimming almost right up to us while we were in the water. They are HUGE – much bigger than the few we saw at Hanauma Bay (although there we had goggles & here I just had to peer through the water to see them) – & even if you head the other way & leave them alone (they’re protected here; please do leave them alone), we had some friendly ones that just kept swimming right nearby. There was also one hanging out on some rocks right at the ocean’s edge. I didn’t have my camera with me at that point, but I was SO impressed by how large & kind he looked. They live for ages, too, don’t they?
Anyways, it was super cool to see – the size & beauty of these animals is definitely not something I’ll ever forget.
If you do head out to the North Shore, make sure you try the garlic shrimp & I’ve heard the shave ice here is delish. There are quite a few places to stop along the way & plenty of opinions out there on what’s the best. I’ll need to do some more taste testing before I tell you my personal favorites, but either way, make sure you consume some of these tasty treats before you leave.
What an amazingly stunning place, no? Those beaches. That ocean. Those clouds. Places & days like this really make you realize how much we have to be thankful for, you know? <3
VISIT / Any of the beaches along the North Shore. Pull over, grab your towel, & go.
