WOW. What an amazing day. I touched down in Rome at just about 8am this morning, found my bag, an ATM, & the train, & headed down to the Termini Station (the main station in Rome). I met a friend of a friend who has been kind enough to let me stay at her apartment tonight AND show me around the city during the day.
I leave for Uganda tomorrow & even though I’ll be back in Italy & especially in Rome at the beginning of April, she gave me an amazing whirlwind tour of this seriously beautiful city. You couldn’t have gotten a better taste of Rome than I just did… or as much good exercise. 😉
I am so in love with the sweet balconies that are literally everywhere here. It’s so classic “Italy” to me. This sweet porch is part of the view from the room where I am staying.
I swear, around every corner there is something amazing & historic. This city is SO OLD. I knew this in my head before I got here, but the second I stepped foot on the crazy cobblestones, I knew this was more true that I had anticipated.
Old stones & architecture everywhere.
Oranges in a lovely public park. None within reach though.
& sweet Italian details. Even the littlest things here make me swoon.
& the old Fiats & other small cars. So classic. Don’t you see these & just want to take a roadtrip in them?!
& all of the famous sites, everywhere you go. I loved visiting the Vatican at night… I felt like we had the whole place to ourselves (because we almost did). I’ll be back for a tour (& to go up into the dome, hopefully!) when I return to Rome at the end of the month, but until then, this & the image of so many historic things that have happened here & so many people who have stood in the exact spot where I stood when I took this photo will have to suffice.
Anyways. I’m rambling. I need to sleep. & then, in the morning, AFRICA! (Also a lot of time in an airplane & a few hours in the airport in Istanbul.)
I’ll check in with photos from another continent soon!
