Sooo. I shared some of my favorite snaps from Florence last a while ago (see ’em here), but the truth is that I definitely just had TOO MANY to fit in one post! So here I am with another post to make sure you really get the whole experience.

The Duomo is an incredible building. We didn’t go in because the line was a total bitch and we’d already wasted an entire day waiting in line to see the inside of the Uffizi (get tickets online ahead of time or skip it). We wandered around the outside for ages though – it’s incredible, honestly – and then went up the clock tower next to it. The wait was significantly shorter and the view was amazing. I’d definitely love to go back and go up the dome here, but only if I’m willing to get up super early or buy tickets ahead of time.

We didn’t really plan Florence – it was a last minute add on to our trip for us – and it really bit us in the butt. If you’re going, I’d say this is one city where you absolutely must make plans ahead of time.

That being said, Florence is an incredibly beautiful and home-like city and wandering around here is such fun. There are all the cute little Italian streets that you’d expect. Vespas and hand lettered signs and tons and tons of gelato.

Also, the best sandwich either of us have ever had and hands down the first place I would go if I came (WHEN I come) back here. It’s called All’Antico Vinaio and it is sooo good. Look at the hours listed online before you go and make sure you have enough time to wait in line. It’s only 5 Euro for a huuuge sandwich and the flavor. Omg, the flavor. (That being said, apparently there are a lot of amazing panino shops in Florence? We only went here, but did go back twice!)

I love these two photos of us at the top of the belltower. I spent so much time looking like a backpacker when we were in Europe that when I see a photo where I look cute, I immediately get vain and praise myself. Oh well, at least I looked like less of a “traveler” than I did when I was in Uganda. When I went to go see the rhinos, I’d pretty much given up. This is totally tangential, but I’m now remembering my maxi skirt with huge hiking boots, pretty tank top, and winter scarf (to help keep the sun off). I looked ridiculous. haha!

And so there you have it! Visit Florence, plan ahead, and just get yourself some gelato and walk around. And sandwiches. I’ll be talking about those sandwiches for the rest of my life. haha! 🙂

See all the rest of my Italy posts here. It’s the best place. Ciao!
