I spent last weekend covering The Outpost for She Explores and it was a fabulous good time! Camp Navarro on the Mendocino coast was a great spot to spend some time and the weather was perfectly summer. So glad I got to see this area and meet tons of like minded folks.
We slept in open camp style bunk beds, tents, little cabins, and tons of nice little RV vanagons. Loved the smell of the trees in the morning and the camaraderie of sharing a cabin with new friends!
We started on Friday with a relaxed trade show on the lawn, among the redwoods. Such a good way to browse, network, and chat!
There was a falconry class and owls! This little one was full grown (although also a baby) and the big owl was insane. We got to pet both: a definite highlight.
The outdoor camp showers were so much fun. A little chilly (okay, just cold), but under the redwoods and so pretty. Would recommend.
I went for a morning trail run, which was an excellent idea and perfect start to the day.
And then followed that up with some kayaking on the Navarro river. It was slow moving, but oh so pretty. And we saw a beaver!
Then I got paired up with two neat arborists and climbed a redwood! SO. FLIPPIN. NEAT. Would do this again in a heartbeat.
Me! Thanks to Jake at Candy Mountain Collective. 🙂
Some drawing and wine by the river. Too perfect in the late afternoon sunshine.Tasty treats all over the place. Also so much swag, but like good outdoor adventure swag. I think I would have made back the ticket price in swag alone, haha.
My friend Oscar and his new van, who made it up here on their maiden voyage together!
And Jad from Go Westy‘s rig, soaking up the pretty sunshine and trees.
There were epic smores with homemade marshmallows and shortbread cookies instead of boxed graham crackers. Taking it to a new level!
And tons of adorable little vans and airstreams and mobile shops. Soooo cute.
Also, one of the organizers grew up with TYCHO so he played a set. We got up on stage and danced and danced and danced and it was THE MOST FUN. Seriously. SO glad we had this opportunity. Also, you’d be hard pressed to find another celeb as kind and humble and friendly. Seriously. So many hugs, so much graciousness when we all jumped on stage, and he was clearly having so much fun.
He’s wearing those silly crystal glasses in this pic, which just makes me laugh. He made some silent jokes about how he’d possibly DJ with these on… too funny.
Oh yeah, and Verve was there serving up yummy espresso drinks out of their van! Yum!
I didn’t pay for my ticket since I was covering it for She Explores as media, but I wasn’t required to write about it on my blog or anything. Now you know.
